Resurrection Roman Catholic Church

History of Resurrection Parish

Since Resurrection Parish in Menominee was founded, through the 1972 merger of St. Adalbert and St. William parishes, members have strived to create a unified identity.  In 1997 Menominee’s three area churches joined together to celebrate 25 years of a new era.

Founding.  The 1972 merger was the result of a consolidation of six Menominee parishes into three. Resurrection’s house of worship is the  former St. Adalbert Church.  Also born out of the consolidation were Holy Spirit Parish and Holy Redeemer in Birch Creek.

Parish Life.  One of the first goals of the three new Menominee parishes was to reduce their combined debt. Buildings and property were sold, the school system merged and other actions were taken to pay off outstanding debt and move ahead in the new era.

The people of Resurrection Parish also came together to support improvements to their church. Upgrades included a new roof and air conditioning for both the church and rectory. A new office and multi-purpose room were built in the basement and the building was made handicapped accessible.  A bell tower was also constructed, using the bell from the former St. Ann Church.

Resurrection Parish has become known throughout Menominee for its Men’s Club bingo and soup luncheons, annual fall festival and summer Bible programs.   On July 13, 1997, members of the parish joined with the people of Holy Spirit and Holy Redeemer to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the mergers.

Parish School.  The parochial schools of Menominee were also combined in the 1970s.  Each parish assumed equal responsibility for running the schools.  With the money saved in consolidating and selling off surplus properties, a foundation was created to assure the future success of the Menominee Catholic Central School.
